Direct Marketing Pros and Cons

As the name implies, direct promotion is sending knowledge directly to consumers, without the necessity of so-called middle men, to promote one's services or products. In this way a company directly communicates with consumers. It is been around for some time, & shows no signs of slowing down. With emails & mobile rings, they have now seen a used kind of direct promotion - receiving emails & knowledge texts.

The following are forms of direct promotion: Do you keep in mind being given a flyer by someone outside a train station, promotion a local company recently opened? Do you keep in mind getting some letter from a company listing its line of products that you may have an interest in? Do you keep in mind getting a phone call from someone acting as a sales agent, advising you of new offers from a company?

The strategy does have lots of benefits for the company & consumer similar. The company can target its audience, hence economize on promotion by focusing on its niche. It also allows the company to build & maintain a pleasant business relationship with its customers, as the company can also use the knowledge it gathers from its direct promotion campaign to improve on current services, or perhaps add another that may have been recommended by a customer. Letters sent to customers usually let them write something, either a reaction or a suggestion, sent back to the company. Direct promotion also lets companies get the quickest results for its campaigns as the knowledge are sent directly to customers who reply within a specified time.

Direct promotion does have its share of disadvantages. Lots of people don't like the idea of getting 'junk mail' or 'junk texts' from promotion companies. In lieu of winning customers over, some companies risk alienating these same customers. Also, the fact of how they got the customer's e mail address or mobile number becomes an issue. Some people see this already as an invasion of privacy. Companies also send out letters & sometimes even product examples to potential customers. With the rise in environmental awareness nowadays, some are saying that this type of promotion takes its toll on nature as it adds to the waste produced yearly. There is also some places which ban the distribution of fliers & promotion in the streets. This limits the reach of companies using this strategy.

Direct promotion as a kind of delivering knowledge to the market about a company still remains a great way to reach out to potential customers.
